Guerra de la Paz

Updated: Mar 9, 2022

Guerra de la Paz (also called GdIP) is the name of the collaboration between Alain Guerra and Neraldo de la Paz. These two Miami-based and Cuban born artists have produced astonishing textile based sculptures and tactile installations. Their work tackles controversial topics such as representation, excessive consumption, and oppression. The art truly speaks for itself as it is equally thought provoking and hopeful as it is daring and cautionary.

The above image is of a piece called the Painterly Bonsai Tree. This is one of many in a series by the name of Bonsai Couture. It was created utilizing materials from the waste bins of Miami based second hand goods shipping companies.

The creation above was produced in 2006 and titled Man Down, Crawl and Pieta. It delves into the theme of war and has a striking impact to say the least.

Tribute was created in 2006 and took over a decade to construct. This is because of the time it took to complete the collection process which allowed for the retrieval of this volume of clothing. It is described as a spectrum inspired piece intended to act as “a memorial to people we did not know, cannot recognize or cannot remember.”
