Textile Artists (Spotlight Section)

Updated: Mar 9, 2022

Recycled art/upcycled art comes is many different shapes and forms, limited only to the imagination of those creating it. As such, categorizing and covering all the intricacies of this artform is almost impossible, with artists developing new layers to the genre on a daily basis. To narrow down my focus and provide more detail, this site will be focused on aesthetic based upcycled art. This ranges from jewelry, paintings, sculptures, glass pieces, wall art, etc. I wish I could cover all the detailed elements of upcycled art because they all provide vital and unique roles. So, throughout these blog posts I will provide "spotlight sections" where I will discuss various types of upcycled art. My goal being to pay tribute to these sub-genres and artists by highlighting their contributions and providing links to additional information.

Textile artists tend to incorporate recycled materials into fabrics, furniture, quilts, wall hangings, rugs, cushions, and much more. These art pieces while being beautiful are also functional. TextileArtists.org is just one of many sites that not only discusses this medium but also provides detailed information about some popular textile artists. Here is a brief overview of their list of artists:

1. Su Blackwell

2. Natasha Kerr

3. Susan Stockwell

4. Louise Baldwin

5. Jennifer Collier

6. Jane Perkins
