global waste

Updated: Mar 9, 2022

Environmental waste is not a new topic of concern and is often identified as a global threat. Studies reflect that 2.01 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste are produced annually. A staggering minimum of 33 percent of which is not disposed of in a safe and environmentally conscious fashion. This trend is expected to continue and become increasingly severe. By 2050, it is predicted that global waste will amount to 3.40 billion. With the rise of these free moving waste products there are severe consequences: the generation of methane gas, attraction of vermin, litter, air pollution, the destruction of wildlife ecosystems, and much more.

This image is just one example of the horrific detriment unattended and poorly managed garbage can elicit. This heartbreaking image begs the question: can waste product accumulation be combatted?
